How to Find the Perfect Wedding Stationery

Let me guess…you’ve pinned 100s of images on Pinterest and still can’t find ‘The One’ for your wedding stationery! Whether you’re planning a garden inspired or country house wedding, getting married at a coastal wedding venue, or at a chic city hotel, below I share my 8 tips on how to find the perfect wedding stationery for your big day.

As a wedding stationer there are 8 questions that I like to ask all my couples to help them quickly drill down to their style, and ultimately save them loads of time and money. Being able to answer the following 8 questions will help you to find your perfect wedding stationery style – turning this part of your wedding planning from stressful to stress-free, and helping you book your wedding stationer with confidence.

1. Which venue have you chosen?

I always start with this question because this is usually something that couples like to choose together. Whether a historic house, modern hotel, traditional barn, or Tipi, you can draw on inspiration from the style of your venue.

I want to tell you about Rosie, who is planning a beautiful garden inspired wedding at Millbridge Court. This Surrey country house venue has lovely sweeping gardens and a gorgeous outdoor ceremony space. Rosie opted for my most popular bespoke design service to bring her Summer garden floral invitation vision to life. Also, rather than carrying the same theme through to their On the Day stationery, Rosie wanted to do something different (and bespoke). The couple wanted to reflect their love of trees and nature, using vintage inspired illustrations for their table stationery and seating plan.By working with a stationery designer, the process of translating their vision to a design reality was an easy one and save hours of hunting around online!

2. In which season are you getting married?

The season in which you’re marrying will provide inspiration too, either from the colours usually associated with the season, or indeed the sort of flowers that will be available at the time of your wedding. Rich, warm hues and jewel tones are often used for Autumn/ Winter weddings, whilst a fresh, colourful palette tends to be used more for Spring and Summer weddings, however it’s entirely up to you!

I want to tell you about Emma, who is planning a Summer wedding at a stunning West Country coastal venue overlooking the sea. Emma saw one of my Studio Collection designs on Instagram and loved the floral design with white and pink Summer Roses and foliage with touches of blue, to reflect the coastal setting. This design suited their aesthetic perfectly and, what’s more, being part of the Studio Collection meant a quick turnaround too.

“We are absolutely delighted with our Wedding stationery. We have worked with Natalie twice now and it’s been a real pleasure. Not only are her designs gorgeous but she has been so responsive and personable, making the whole process really easy for us. She was also really helpful and accommodating when our plans were changed this year. We would definitely recommend Natalie!”

3. What's your dream wedding dress vision?

How would you describe your dream dress? Timeless and elegant, Boho and relaxed, total glamour, or something colourful and non-traditional?

I want to tell you about Nicole, who is planning a chic and intimate city wedding at a modern hotel with stunning London city views. Her dress vision is for a sleek, silk satin dress with simple bootsrap laces, v-neckline and daringly low back. Nicole is a woman who loves effortless elegance and a minimalist dress style, so she opted for a minimalist Invitation style from my Studio Collection, which featured a modern font combination and a muted colour scheme.

4. What's your colour palette?

Which colours are you most drawn to, or which colours do you envisage for your bridesmaids or wedding flowers? Do you like a neutral palette, monochrome with some accents of colour, something bold and dramatic, or romantic soft pastel shades, or perhaps earth tones?

I want to tell you about Kristina, who has planned a late Spring wedding in Sweden. A specific selection of wildflowers was particularly symbolic to her and her fiancé, and Kristina wanted to reflect this theme in her stationery design. A friend of hers recommended Flamboyant Invites and Kristina chose our bespoke design service for their truly personalised design requirement. Like many busy couples, she also opted for guest addressed printed envelopes, which saved heaps of time in mailing out too!

5. Have you got a mood board?

Get a Pinterest board together and pin your favourite styles and inspiration that reflect your vision, as identified from the previous steps. Ultimately you’ll be able to share your moodboard inspiration with your wedding stationer, which is always super helpful!

6. Have you got a budget in mind?

You might like to think about this in terms of the per head spend that you’re happy to pay for wedding stationery, as the cost of stationery can vary widely, depending on the type of printing, quantities and supplier.

Wedding stationery which is tailored to you, professionally designed and printed onto luxe paper is always going to cost a premium. Also each couple is working to a different budget, so when shortlisting your favourite stationers to contact, it’s really important that you are clear on their pricing. There’s nothing more disappointing than setting your heart on a particular designer, only to find out later on that their prices are just way over your budget!

8. When are you hoping to send out your wedding invitations?

Another important step is to find out your stationer’s availability to do your wedding stationery. There’s nothing more disappointing than entering into a discussion about the details of your wedding, only to find out that the stationer is fully booked and is unable to accommodate your timelines.
